Pans in the Fire

I’m a person who uses to-do lists.

And I love them.

I consistently keep several pans in the fire, as the saying goes. From writing to reading, watching to playing, I always have several things going at once.

  • I have books in Audible going while I’m reading on Kindle or paper. (The Booktrack editions of audiobooks are WONDERFUL, in case you were curious.)
  • I’m currently working on three writing projects. One is being queried, one is being drafted, and one is being outlined.
  • I’m trying to build a story-based podcast, which technically should count as another writing project since I’m writing the script for it. I’m learning vocal production stuff too, which is fun.
  • I’m watching movies and TV shows that align with my current WIPs to help with inspiration, answer questions, help develop my worldbuilding, all of that. (And watching those shows with me while I’m technically working isn’t fun because I’m always pausing to take notes.)

How do I keep them straight? How do I balance the time in my day to give them my attention? Well, it helps me to do things in 30-minute chunks. Timers and to-do lists give me enough structure to accomplish the goals I’ve set out for myself.

But whether or not you use to-do lists or timers or friends and family to keep  you accountable, always remember this: If you really want to do it, then you’ll do it.

It’s really that simple.

So I really want to read at least twelve books this year. At the rate I’m going, I may go over that (let’s hope!), but I have to keep track.

I want to write X story. Oh, and I had a great idea for Y story. Then work on them.

Yes, it’s really that simple.

Use a system that works for you, if you are like me and have a lot of things going at once.

You can do it. I believe in you.
