Let’s get down to it. What are Celine and Owen’s personality types?

Celine – 8w7 | ISFP
- Enneagram:
- Challenger, Protector, Advocate
- Fear: Being controlled/rendered powerless
- This is why Celine wants revenge against Dathan – she was powerless in protecting her parents, but the real enemy wasn’t the corrupted merking after all…
- Eights have strong bodily reactions – they physically process emotions, trauma, etc. Eights swim in their anger (pg 105).
- It LITERALLY says “SWIM” in the book! How perfect.
- Lies that 8s tell themselves:
- It’s not OK to be weak/vulnerable.
- I can’t trust anyone.
- I need to be in control to feel safe.
- I am too much.
- Emotions are weakness.
- Luckily, with Celine’s found family in Zander and Quinn, those lies aren’t the obstacles in her path, though they do come up to some degree at various points. Her misbelief is that revenge is her way of taking back control.
- MBTI:
- ISFP – The Adventurer
- “Driven by their sense of fairness and open-mindedness” – I liked this idea for Celine because her sense of fairness was directly at war with Dathan. And, because Celine is an Enneagram 8w7, she’s not going to sit by and let Dathan’s actions go.
- ISFPs can be extremely flexible, open-minded, and go-with-the-flow, but with Celine’s shadowy path in seeking revenge, she becomes passionate about doing what she feels to be right and hyper-focuses on getting those results.
- Along with the strengths of this type (charming, Sensitive, Kind, and Passionate), I really focused on the weaknesses (unpredictable, easily stressed, difficulty with structure, fluctuating self-esteem) because, working alongside her Enneagram type, Celine’s stressed state has her hyper-focusing on what she can control to maintain balance, and what she can control is her revenge work against Dathan.

Owen – 3w2 | INFJ
- Enneagram:
- Achiever, Performer, Motivator
- Fear: People only love him for what he does, rather than for who he is.
- Skilled at gathering a team to help achieve his goals; can identity strengths and weaknesses in people.
- Lies that 3s tell themselves:
- It’s not okay to be seen as flawed.
- I must be “on” at all times.
- People love me because of what I do, not because of who I am.
- There is nothing underneath all of these masks I wear.
- I am what I do.
- Luckily for Owen, he has a very supportive mother, uncle, and best friend, who all reassure him of his value outside of his royal responsibilities. Additionally, Celine treats him like any other person instead of a prince.
- (Micro Spoiler: That’s a big reason why he insists on Celine calling him Owen, rather than your highness.)
- MBTI:
- INFJ – The Advocate
- “Lofty goals and ambitions,” “INFJs carry around a sense . . . of being different from most people.”
- Alongside Owen’s Enneagram 3w2 type, it builds his character model well that he would have a rarer MBTI that focuses on goals, balancing injustice, and feeling a bit disconnected from others.
- Again, he has strong relationships with loved ones, but his social circle is quite small. INFJs value “deep, authentic relationships,” which also explains why he was relieved by Celine’s initial behavior toward him (before she knew he was a prince).
- INFJs strengths coincide well with Enneagram 3s – insightful, principled, passionate, altruistic, and creative. But the weaknesses really show Owen’s internal conflict with himself, his relationships with others, his relationship with his kingdom…the list goes on. Those weaknesses are
- Sensitivity to criticism (such an Enneagram 3 weakness, too, in the right setting)
- Reluctance to open up (hence the small circle of trusted loved ones)
- Perfectionistic
- Avoiding the ordinary
- Prone to burnout
- “Lofty goals and ambitions,” “INFJs carry around a sense . . . of being different from most people.”
